Brazilian Pilotage

Brasília Headquarters

Memória do projeto

Project Memorial

The project for the new headquarters of Praticagem do Brasil was developed in 2021 and occupies two floors of the SIA 600 building, designed by CoDA in 2012. The central idea of the space is to become a national reference center for pilotage training throughout Brazil. Its location in Brasília makes it equidistant from all national ports, even though it is not a port city. This is possible thanks to the three simulators installed at the headquarters, which allow docking operations for various types of ships in ports across the country.

The project was divided into two levels: the first is more open to the general public, while the second is dedicated to pilot training. The architecture of both floors sought to reflect the sober character of the operation while taking advantage of the building’s features, such as the proximity to the external air-conditioning systems, the raised floor, and the high ceilings. The blue carpet and metallic panels reference the port environment, evoking the colors of the sea and port structures.

The first floor of the headquarters also includes exhibition spaces, meeting and work rooms, as well as a conference room expandable through retractable sliding doors. In addition, a control room was planned to monitor all ports across the country.

The second floor houses the training rooms, classrooms, and simulators. The Simulation and Maneuvering Center was implemented in partnership with the Numerical Offshore Tank of the University of São Paulo. The simulation system accurately reproduces the effects of waves, winds, and sea currents that affect vessel maneuvers, allowing any specific situation to be simulated without generating risks for the pilot.
