Garça House

The house gets its name because it consists of two interconnected volumes: an upper one that “rests” on the lower one, which forms the ground floor.

These volumes define the different functions of the house. While the ground floor houses the more social areas—including a living room, dining room, TV room, kitchen, two suites, and a pool with a barbecue—the upper floor is more private, dedicated to the bedrooms and an office.

All bedrooms on the upper floor have sliding doors that open onto a patio overlooking a stunning view of the Brasília skyline and Lake Paranoá. The volume forming the upper floor is offset toward the northwest to maximize this view.

The ground-floor outdoor area, located at the rear of the house, features a spacious garden, a pool, and a barbecue area. The pool is surrounded by a cantilevered pergola that follows the axes of the house’s lower volume. Constructed of metal, it is positioned to cast shade over the pool during the period of peak sunlight, in the early afternoon.

The garage is located at the rear of the house, accessed from the side of the lower volume, so as not to obstruct either the main façade or the view of the backyard, pool, and barbecue area.
