Jampa Apartment

Memória do projeto

Project memorial

The project starts from the need to update the layout of the duplex apartment in João Pessoa. The residents approached the firm with the desire to integrate the kitchen with the living area, convert the staff quarters into a guest room, and improve the comfort of the penthouse’s outdoor space.

He is from Salvador and she is from Brasília; the clients moved to the new city for work, bringing references from their respective hometowns and professional fields. They sought out CODA Arquitetura because they wanted to incorporate Brasília-style design into the project.

The staircase was relocated to expand the living and dining room on the ground floor, aligning the space with the open kitchen. Behind its metal structure, a bookshelf was designed that runs the entire length of the double-height space, from the ground floor to the ceiling of the upper level. The bookshelf, made of marine plywood covered with white Formica, follows the layout of the staircase steps and was designed to house a cherished collection of books and inherited objects.

The ground floor houses the social area, consisting of a living and dining room, a balcony, and a kitchen—as well as an office and two guest suites for hosting family and friends.

The second floor is accessed through a staircase that winds its way up alongside the bookshelf, leading to a multifunctional room that houses another workspace. From this room, one can access the most private area of the apartment, where there are two more suites, one of which is the master suite. The second floor features an outdoor balcony with a pool, which now includes a covered kitchen area and dining space.

In terms of materials, white surfaces predominate throughout the apartment, complemented by dark green flooring that runs through all the rooms. This contrast ensures well-lit spaces and a color scheme that blends seamlessly with the city’s sea views. Natural materials, such as wood, and handcrafted elements, such as cement tiles and concrete countertops, provide varied shades of color and texture. The chosen finishes blend with the furniture and upholstery—pieces belonging to the residents that were incorporated into the design—creating a space that, though new, holds many memories.

Outside, white tiles were chosen to restore the building’s facade, and the hijau stone used in the pool ensures continuity with the color scheme chosen for the family’s new home.
